Swisslink is not an agent or a distributor for any brand name; we work as partners with those companies that wish to sell or promote their brand into the UK. Good marketing, product placement and celebrities’ endorsements are often the keys to assured success in industries like fashion, luxury goods ad, of course, watches. Big Groups like Richemont, LVMH, Swatch, Seiko, Rolex etc., carry out their own distribution worldwide. Some brands, although very few, have opened their own offices with personnel in UK, providing sales and services to the shops, chains and customers alike. It is important to know the market well and what it will take for a brand, any brand, to become successful. Since 2003, we at Swisslink, have carried out a number of case studies on different territories, manufacturers, countries and brands. We found out, for example, that two different brands with very similar products (design, quality and movements) have turnovers of $8 million and $120 million respectively. The latter one spends around $6.5 million per annum on marketing and celebrities’ endorsements (it seems money well invested). If marketing, celebrities’ endorsements and the expenditure of $6.5 million are enough to guarantee the success to any brand; we would all be rich and famous. Such large investments are not normal and no one expects these sort of commitments on new markets. Out of 5000 watch brand’s name out there, the public will recognize and remember probably a dozen of them. Most of the dealers and shopkeepers may know as many as 80 brands, but there are at least 300 watch brands that are known worldwide and are present in different and several countries. England is the core and focal point for celebrities, superstars, pop idols, movie stars and other famous personalities. Traditionally strong with a robust backbone, UK is very much a leader in the world of finance, marketing and travel.
